We had one 12h flight from Schiphol to Kuala Lumpur. Then 12h of waiting to continue our journey with a 6h flight to Beijing.12 hours! That’s plenty of time. We could go into the citycentre. But we both where a bit too tired for that.
There was a small train to travel between the different gates. Excitement took over. Maybe we weren’t that tired after all. Maybe this was going to be a very exciting day. We could drive head and forth between the gates!! Two train rides further it became clear this was not how we were going to spend our first day. There was a small jungle in a courtyard of the airport. Nicely done. But not big enough to spend the day. There was taxfree shopping. Furla. Estee Lauder. Gucci. Louis Vuitton. Prada. A LOT of taxfree shopping to do. But nothing one needs for a worldtrip. There was a Lonely Planet shop full of nice travelstuff. Yes! We want them all! Unfortunately the average weight of a Lonely Planet is about half a kilo. Multiplied by all the ones we want. Meh. I’m pretty sure we don’t have the muscles to carry them. There are plenty of fancy lounges in the airport. Yes! Lets do it. But one thing was certain: it’s not because you’re about to travel the world with Malaysian Airlines that you are allowed to enter their lounge. If we wanted to pay to have access to their awesome lounge, they asked with a kind smile? No thanks. So we kept walking around when suddenly behind the corner the Samsung movie lounge heavenly appeared. The decision was fast made. Lounge in the amazing and free Samsung lounge with the best and softest sofas around was going to be our first day. With fresh Starbucks coffee nearby.
By the time we could go to gate C34 the bags under our eyes were very close to reach the ground. But it’s all worth it. In a few hours we’ll be in the land of the rising sun. China.
